One of my clients asked me a question today that I just guessed at the answer… and my guess was WAY off. Her question:

When does the Join button light up for attendees?

We’re really concerned more about what if the speaker and host don’t show up til right on time… or maybe they’re late. How long will the attendees be allowed to just sit in the Waiting Room? This of course depends on when the Host starts a Meeting or clicks the blue Start Webinar button which lets attendees in. But how long also depends on how far in advance they’re allowed to click Join. Nobody ever really wanted to know before… and I had to know!

She had a screen shot showing a “time to do” of 2m47s, and the Join button was lit! I thought maybe 2 minutes was appropriate, but obviously I was wrong.

I generated a test by creating a multi-session event with one session, and adjusted the start time (because I’m lazy and didn’t want to set it for 30 minutes from now and just wait and see) until I saw the Join button light up for a non-Special Role attendee.

What I found really surprised me! The Join button lights up with just under 20 minutes to go!

Watch the animated GIF clip I recorded (above).

Twenty minutes seems excessive to me, but after thinking about it, it’s just as good as any number, right?
